.. tips and techniques..
1. Using graphite in the slots of the nut will help the strings slide better
in the grooves. This helps tremendously when bending note or using the
tremolo bar.
2. Stretch your strings after installing a new set. Tune it to pitch, the
tug on the string (be careful with the light treble strings, you can break
them if your not careful). What this does is, tighten up any slack that may
occure when the string wraps around the tuner post. And on a acoustic
guitar, it take up slack at the bridge where the string pin hold the ball
end.
3. If you de-tune your guitar a full step down or de-tune to a special
tuning, use heavier set of strings. A set of 12's or 13's will feel looser
when de-tuned and tuning will be more stable.
4. Always use a quality guitar cord.
5. Find out if your instruments is "active", meaning does it need a battery
for pre-amp electronics. If your instrument sounds like your amp speaker is
blown, the battery is weak. Always change the battery before every gig.
6. If your guitar is acting up, try a different your guitar cord, and try a
different amp, remove any pedal in your connections. If your guitar is still
acting up, now you know for sure that it's the guitar not your gear.
